Nightcliff Fish Trap
Foreshore - SW towards East Point
Foreshore - NE towards Nightcliff Jetty
The image at left is amongst an unattributed collection 1894-1911. The cliffs are too high for Nightcliff (above) and are likely to be around Pt. Charles Lighthouse across the harbour - like many of the images. It is captioned - Fish trap 'a haul of fish in native's catchment' - the wire netting - bamboo stakes and sawn log revetment are not classically 'native' - they had no refrigeration, no history of fish smoking or sun drying and no reason to massacre Threadfin like this.
