DARWIN - HISTORIC STATUES & SCULPTURE

This pages proposes public art, plaques & other heritage infrastructure necessary to Top End Heritage Tourism e.g. a Statue of Goyder with theodolite to mark the sesquicentenary of Darwin City - a purple plaque on the old bank façade preserved for it's heritage value & plastered in Paspaley advertising but nothing whatsoever to engage the curious & inform the populous. That great effort & expense should go into preserving this feature is passing commendable but to then entirely neglect to tell anyone what it is & why it has been saved says some very insightful things about Darwin heritage management.

It's good to do these things but not in isolation - nobody knows where this is - even people who've spent large lumps of their lives in Darwin - what's the point - if not to engage & communicate then it must be to isolate & exclude - exclusivity is defensive, recruitment to group paranoia of us against the world - is this the Post Tracy Stress Disorder that brings fear of facing the sea.
