Purchased at the sale of the Denis Joachim Collection, Mossgreen Auctions, Melbourne, 19-21 June 2016.
It would appear that there never was such an expedition - the images cover daily life at the Daly Waters Telegraph Station probably during the late 1870s.
It is presumed that the photographer was the Station master at Daly Waters for several years.

Charles Todd - Adelaide Observer - 11 January 1873, "in the interior we have six persons at each station, viz., the Stationmaster, Assistant-Operator and four men. There are also about 20 horses — draught and saddle — and in most cases a team of bullocks besides spare bullocks for food. The stations are all well provisioned - most of them up to the end of 1874".
At successive Repeater Stations every 155 miles along the 1,973 mile line, the Stationmaster or his assistant, as the telegraphist, receive & resend each message to the next station on the line.
The four linesmen based at each repeater Station patrolled the section of line assigned to that station.
