For Natives Addicted to Opium Smoking & Drinking
Joe Cooper - Melville Island buffalo shooter, saw-miller and honorary protector of Aborigines established what may be the NT's first drug & Alcohol diversionary program for mainland aborigines addicted to opium and alcohol. It was a successful program of intervention & rehabilitation supported by his teams of workers from Melville Island and the Cobourg Peninsular.
